Color Contact Lenses Regulation

color_contact_lenses Officials in Japan have decided to regulate colored contact lenses. Regulations will be similar to the medicinal lenses people use for correcting their eyesight. This decision comes after complaints and reports that color contact lenses can damage people's eyes.

In Japan, colored contact lenses are available without obtaining a doctor's prescription. Approximately 5 million colored lenses are sold annually, coming from South Korea and/or Singapore. So far, least 165 people have suffered injuries due to these lenses in the past two and a half years.

Under these new regulations, stores which sell these lenses must give consumers information about the risks involved when colored contact lenses.
